When Julius Caeser showed up at the Roman Senate on March 15th he was unaware that soon his life would end from 23 knife stabs courtesy of his fellow Senators (the Roman type not the feckless clowns now in Washington). Billy Shakespeare then slightly embellished it so that we now “beware the Ides of March.” This warning has been heeded for centuries.
When Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the White House on February 28th he probably wasn’t thinking of this as he first had to endure the fashion critique of our lumpy 47. Always festooned in the same outdated uniform with extended red tie (to compensate for who knows what), our would-be King felt compelled to share his ideas about a guest’s “dress” moments before a presumed meeting of diplomacy. Well, 47 was never one with great common sense. Rapidly they retired to the Oval Office so that to hear 47 tell it “great television” could be made—as though that’s central to the recent oath he took.
There he introduced a gelding who happens to be America’s Vice-President. This third gent is a petty, sniveling little man known for his exquisite tastes in Haitian cuisine and patterning his life after the Roman God Janus. He and 47 would together, welcome Zelensky into the Oval Office in seeming pursuit of new diplomacy that would end the invasive war of Russia into Ukraine. If only.
With cameras clicking and whirring the conversation was civil and perfunctory enough until it wasn’t. Either out of boredom or on cue, and while forgetting who brought in those cameras, the gelding began to vigorously wag his finger toward his guest while offering how wrong it was for Zelensky to “litigate before the American people.” Just like 47, he then rubbed his long tie to its tip leading to something that he thought might be important until he remembered the oriechtomy. With one final wag he then slapped 47’s hand to stand out of the ring whereby the orange felon proceeded with more finger wagging and even a tap to Zelensky’s left shoulder. Not since Ralphie from the first alley scene in a Christmas Story had someone been so surprisingly double-teamed by thug poseurs. Zelensky was credible in defense as 47 continued to yell that subtle diplomatic bromide of “you are holding no cards!” What, you were expecting finesse?
With that the White House assault of February 28th was over. Since then the world has reeled, many Americans have bowed in shame and Trump sycophants have doused the airwaves with a “Zelensky doesn’t want peace” falsity. Naturally these mouthpieces fail to mention that 47 and his gelding reversed 80 years of post-war history where European Allies and us are thick as thieves. But the new nonsense would have it a different way—with deference to Russia—a land that long ago we defeated both economically and culturally. Russia the country, and the space between the Vice-President’s thighs are identical—there is nothing there. This is true from the standpoint of decency, freedom and even the occasional whiff of authenticity demanded by the Russian people and Usha Vance.
It is hard to see how this stunning event leads to anything good for America, or in the short term, for the suffering Ukranians. Driven by a post-war alliance and America’s default position, Joe Biden was masterful in mobilizing NATO to back Ukraine in resisting Russia’s invasion three years ago. Seldom do the Yanks like to support something that’s the other way around—or worse—when it means switching sides. But that’s exactly what 47 and his henchmen are pursuing. Of course to the degree they “pursue” anything it will be done in the most chaotic, hurtful, Keystone-Cops way possible.
In all the multi-year madness of 47, his enablers and ardent supporters who’ve swallowed the Fox News Kool-Aid, never has a line been crossed as stark and consequential as with Zelensky. (When you consider all the stark and consequential lines 47 has crossed, with seeming impunity, that’s saying something!) Switching sides in the middle of a war has no upside for anything remotely like what we all know as America. It simultaneously burns our allies, our interests and our own dignity. It pisses on the memory of our brave loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It seeks to normalize that international fair-play is no longer the predominate way America rolls. It turns our collective head to the continued slaughter of combatants where one side is self-defending for survival and the other is just so many Russian youth as war materiel to which Putin is indifferent. He, 47 and the mindsets that fueled this stupidity all share two things: They admire authoritarianism and are clearly out of date. For now, that may mean temporary woe to us. But eventually the worm will turn—when is the big unknown—but it shall. Remember Ralphie kicked ass the second time he encountered alley thugs and the shameful display our leaders showed on February 28th deserves the same treatment.
