WAS: What Adults are Saying about What they See
With 47 and his sycophants nothing is what it seems
It comes as no surprise that actions now coming from the White House are as clear as uh—mud. The behavior of the Con-in-Chief has always been tawdry, menacing, malicious, puerile and of course, completely predictable. Why anyone, friend or foe, would now be expecting anything different speaks more to one’s moral clarity than 47 not having any. So far those actions have created the type of chaos, head-shaking, WTF response that was also expected because that too, is all 47 knows.
Given expectations are being met it comes as a concern that its elusive to get a handle on what is going on now in Washington. As described here when clowns take occupancy in the people’s house it still is a circus—just at a different venue. That results in whatever is happening to be nothing like what 47 and his bromance pal Musk claim. Foremost fraud, abuse and waste—coming from the mouths of a felon and a blood-diamond champion of apartheid is such an extreme version of “calling the pot black” that pots are rightfully insulted. As these two dopes clamor for entry to the Con hall-of-fame, we know that have no real interest in reducing the cost of government because they are not dealing with areas that run up the tab in the first place: Defense, insurance entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare and interest on the nation’s debt. That’s 90 cents of every dollar America spends and have been that way for about two decades! To the degree that one thinks Uncle Sam’s debt is an issue (not everyone does) nothing will change until these costly items are addressed.
Knowing this dopey orders and words stream for maximum shock value, and then with regularity, supporting actions either never materialize or just enough to get compromised media to report it as the next hammer of doom. Ambiguity then ensues and as though we didn’t understand this on January 6th, 47 looms a “threat” to Democracy. Really? The only surprise is there’s no surprise.
However, a little surprise may be found in how others are reacting to extended ambiguity. Main Stream Media (MSM,) now just a bunch of gelded racehorses knowing they’ll never enjoy the breeding shed, are consistent in asking seemingly legit questions about crazy claims. Somehow many in that club think that will avoid the ignominy of the President calling one “dumb” (it won’t) or help eliminate the rapidly increasing confusion (it doesn’t). It’s just a zero. Just like anytime you multiply any number by zero the answer is zero. That bit of mathematics and laws of communication science dictate that when a question of detail is posed to anything that is batshit crazy, the answer is always a waste of oxygen and a little sliver of space/time continuum that can never be recovered. In a metaphysical way that is true waste, fraud and abuse.
Meanwhile the President’s foes and many in new media regularly take to the presses to rally us in stopping a falling sky. The challenge is that too many things in their view are all falling everywhere, all at once. Even advanced Whac-A-Mole players are feckless against this onslaught. What’s worse amid the careening panic and breathlessness one can’t actually tell what is falling and what remains in orbit until some later date when Elon sends a rocket to screw it up. A final insult is realizing, just like a broken clock, twice-a-day they are correct. Even the most credible people on this platform such as Paul Krugman or Steve Schmidt (both very highly recommended) are for the most part, documenting the scoring but not yet revealing a broader context to White House behavior and its implications. Simply claiming the “end of Democracy” sometimes needs to be served in smaller bites.
Then there is the rest of us who go about our daily lives where what we do mostly, is latibulate. When we emerge, we go about our work, or our golf clubs, or the running trail and avoid discourse about 47, his lieutenants and their behavior. This is the biggest head-scratcher of them all. Even if we collectively think all claimed is a mere ruse then why aren’t we discussing it? If we think this is truly is the end of Democracy why isn’t that crossing our lips? If we think all of this is indicative of something else let’s hear it! Together, we have drawn eerily silent which may be the most worrisome thing of all.
At the risk of severe over-simplification, broadly speaking, consider what is going on in Washington right now is principally about two things: edge-nibbling at the dismantling of the government’s administrative state and the destruction of NATO to reset a world order more favorable to Vladimir Putin. These things are not said lightly and without the daily let me now order the toppings on my pizza approach that 47 takes in his absurd Executive Orders. If this is what’s happening these are big, big things to both a failing America and a potentially shifting world that threatens to return us to times of Colonialism and Imperialism.
The motivations for this are clearly evident. As previously described here Project 2025 is a blueprint written by domestic ideologues, mostly from the south, who principally hate three things about our country: Taxes, anyone who isn’t white and that any business they run might somehow be subject to regulation for the protection of the people. This is a hardly a new phenomenon and scholars everywhere can draw a clear line between this and the aims of the Confederacy—you know that enemy we fought and whipped 160 years ago but is still regarded with reverence in some places.
The NATO issue is of course more global. One must remember that if not for a snowstorm and the death of 100,000 Russian soldiers Hitler would have conquered Moscow and today’s history books might be vastly different. Russia was always distrusting of its western allies (take a look at Potsdam) and is among the reasons why it was never fond of the group even though the vanquished Italians (1949) were a charter member of the club and Germany (1955) added a few years later. Add in that Putin is classic cold-war politics and badly screwed-up three years ago when invading Ukraine. These things combined meant suddenly the promise of a modern Russia that was envisioned when the Soviet Union fell in the 1990s was gone. Partially, Putin (now the country’s “elected” President for 25 years), wanted it that way. But he also wanted a dramatic, sweeping and quick victory for Mother Russia. That didn’t happen.
Trump meanwhile owes much to Putin including the 2016 election and who knows what other subterranean crap that history will discover? He owes sidestepping prison to the architects of project 2025 who with money, RV’s and hunting trips were successful in turning enough Supreme Court members from high jurists to whores. Their payback is pillaging the countryside while many screech OMG! every time 47 and Musk dog whistles. Not artful but effective for this dimwitted time in America.
Where this all goes will largely be determined by “if” and “when” the other branches of government decide to do their jobs. As written here that has yet to occur and for folks who really want to be in the know, tracking legislative and judicial activity will be a far more accurate way to gauge what’s actually happening. Until then, though not easy, take 47’s actions under advisement. Just because he wants all other moving parts in Washington to capitulate means it will happen. On the other hand, it doesn’t mean it won’t.
Thank you for linking latibulate. If nothing else my vocabulary is expanded. I also find that many people are seeking to take various actions. Not everyone has their head in the sand.
